Kompas.com - Selain air putih, teh adalah minuman yang paling banyak dikonsumsi di seluruh dunia. Kandungan antioksidan, vitamin, dan komponen lain dalam teh membuat teh dipercaya sebagai minuman untuk meningkatkan fungsi imun dan mencegah kanker.

Beberapa penelitian juga menunjukkan teh bisa mencegah gigi berlubang, menjaga kadar gula darah, dan menyehatkan jantung.

Di banyak tempat, teh seringkali disajikan bersama dengan susu. Walau hasilnya lebih nikmat, tetapi penelitian menyebutkan menambahkan susu ke dalam teh bisa mengurangi kandungan berkhasiat dalam teh.

Dalam studi yang dipublikasikan di The European Heart Journal, para peneliti menguji 16 orang dewasa sehat yang diminta minum secangkir teh hitam, teh hitam dicampur sedikit susu tanpa lemak, serta air yang dimasak. Kemudian fungsi vaskular para responden diukur.

Jika dibandingkan dengan air, teh hitam secara signifikan meningkatkan fungsi arteri. Tetapi penambahan sedikit susu malah menyebabkan khasiat teh itu tidak tampak.

Para peneliti kemudian mengulanginya pada tikus dan mendapatkan hasil yang sama. Menurut para ahli, protein dalam susu akan mengikat dan menetralisir antioksidan dalam teh. Susu malah berbanding terbalik dengan manfaat teh bagi fungsi vaskular.

Kerugian tersebut bukan cuma disebabkan oleh susu sapi saja, tapi juga oleh susu kedelai. Protein dalam susu kedelai juga menetralisir antioksidan teh. Karena itu jika ingin mendapatkan manfaat kesehatan dari teh, mungkin teh dan susu sebaiknya diminum terpisah.
